Operated by the Center Theatre Group, who also run downtown LA's Ahmanson Theater and Mark Taper Forum, the Kirk Douglas is an intimate, 317 seat Culver City theater. Built in 1947 as a streamline-moderne movie palace that seated over 1,000, the Kirk Douglas has been lavishly and lovingly renovated. There's not a bad seat in the house, so you can actually follow emotion on the actors' faces. They stage classics, revivals, musicals, adventurous modern plays, holiday-themed revues, magic shows and off the wall productions like Hip Hop Shakespeare. The Kirk Douglas often expands its repertoire by teaming up with famed theater companies such as Second City. |
