It's massive. An architectural landmark. Eleven-stories high, designed by Spanish architect Jose Rafael Moneo. With an impressive cathedral, a traditional courtyard, two beautiful gardens, a grill serving breakfast and lunch, a bookstore, a gift shop and a conference plaza; the modern Los Angeles cathedral offers a peaceful place for stressed out jurists, and over-worked city clerks to mingle with the spiritual angels of Los Angeles. Self-guided and group tours available. www.olacathedral.org |

Our Lady was founded in 1814 to serve the first settlers in the City of Angels. For many years the chapel was the only Roman Catholic Church in Los Angeles. In 1962 it became one of the first Los Angeles landmarks to be officially recognized and preserved by the city. Since 1908 it's been headed by the Claretians, a Catholic order devoted to helping the poor. If you hear the sound of the trumpets, it may be your lucky day and the musicians of the mariachi mass are calling down the spiritual angels who have watched over La Placita for hundreds of years. The church is right next to La Placita Olvera a.k.a. Olvera Street, one of L.A.'s most popular attractions. www.laplacita.org
