If you're looking for intense yoga classes in Los Angeles, try the Birkram style of hot yoga. The class will move you through 26 postures. You WILL sweat, so bring a change of clothes, a towel, a mat and a liter of water. The Bikram Yoga Los Angeles Downtown studio has a shower in the changing room. Single class is $20.

In a classic building in the old bank district Yoga Circle offers alignment and form; vinyasa; power yoga; yoga and meditation; and kundalini yoga classes. They have a great introductory special for new yogis -- two weeks for $32. A great deal compared to other yoga classes in Los Angeles. The suggested donation for a single class is $16.

In the California Mart - L.A.'s designer fashion center. The Yoga Place L.A. is taught by the compassionate Denise, whose mission is to make yoga affordable to the downtown community. She charges $10 per class, one of the best deals for yoga classes in Los Angeles. Her website does a great job of explaining what is vinyasa yoga. She teaches three levels: basic, vinyasa, and power vinyasa. The more advanced the class, the quicker you move through the postures. Bring yoga mat, comfortable clothes, hand towel and water bottle. Remember, parking in Downtown is a nightmare and expensive; the city now charges $4 per hour on the meters, so travel light and take the Metro.

Well, let's see, it's a yoga studio, an art gallery space w/special events. They offer basic Hatha and some Kundalini classes. Possibly the most musical yoga classes in Los Angeles -- listen to a live a live harpist or a drummer while you stretch into that downward dog.

A different spin from the regular yoga classes in Los Angeles, YAS is for the athlete. Founded by triathlete Kimberly Fowler, her motto is "I am not your Guru." The studio offers an interesting blend of cross-yoga training with classes that combine 1/2 hour of indoor cycling with 1/2 hour of yoga. They cater to the athlete who wants to push, push, push their body to the limit. Be warned: these are among the toughest yoga classes in Los Angeles.
